State Issue 3 - Legalize Marijuana
"As Sheriff of this County, myself, all the 88 Sheriffs in Ohio, and our local Police Chiefs are all strongly urging you to vote NO on State Issue 3. It is my belief that the legalization of marijuana will cause a sharp increase in driving related deaths (up 83% in Colorado), crashes and DUI's (up 83% in Colorado).
It will create an increase in behavioral problems in schools resulting in suspensions (40% increase), expulsion and addiction of our youth at much younger ages. It will increase addition as a gateway drug for stronger and more dangerous drugs. It will create problems in the workplace, having a direct impact on the amount of work related injuries (85% increase) and increases in absenteeism (up 78%). It will immediately create a black market for drug dealers to be able to sell their product at a large discount attempting to avoid paying taxes.
It results in the need to re-train our drug dogs. These are just a few repercussions that will compound in our communities at a time when all of us are scrambling to deal with the heroin epidemic. as voters, you have the right to say NO to something that will not be good for our state. Please make the right decision by saying NO to issue 3."
