PRESS RELEASE
FOR RELEASE 9:30 A.M. EST, AUGUST 31, 2010
New Public Access Computer Terminal
Records Division, 9:30 a.m. Tuesday August 31, 2010, Demo of System: Sheriff Wellington is committed to openness as a foundation for a better informed community, which leads to better government and better public policy. It is the policy of the Mahoning County Sheriff’s Office to strictly adhere to the state’s Public Records Act. All exemptions to openness are to be construed narrowly and any denial of public records in response to a valid request must be accompanied by an explanation, including legal authority, as outlined in the Ohio Revised Code. If the request is in writing, the explanation must also be in writing. In efforts to provide better accessibility to public records retained by the Sheriff, Sheriff Wellington has installed a new public access computer terminal which is located in the lobby of our Records Division. The lobby can be accessed during normal business hours Monday thru Friday between the hours of 8:00a.m. To 4:00p.m. Members of the media will be able to gain access afterhours by contacting the OIC (Officer in Charge). The web based application is easy to use. Individual searches can be performed as well as the ability to generate reports. Photographs can also be retrieved. Records being sought can be viewed and/or copied onto a thumb drive. There is no charge for documents electronically copied onto one’s personal media i.e. thumb drive. Those seeking hard copies of public records will be charged only the actual cost of making the copies.
